Free Family Sessions for 5 to 11 years

This Summer we will be running a range of free family activities across the borough between 10am to 12:30pm daily from Monday 29 July to Thursday 22 August 2024.

Chapel End Early Years Centre, Brookscroft Road entrance, E17 4HL
Henry Maynard Primary School, Maynard Path entrance, E17 9LT
Whitehall Primary School, Normanton Park entrance, E4 6ES
George Tomlinson Primary School, Harrington Road entrance, E11 4QN
All sessions are led by Waltham Forest Play Workers, with specialist workshops provided by professionals from a variety of local organisations including circus skills, face painting, slime workshops, nerf games, multisports and many more.

Activities that are provided throughout these sessions are suitable and designed for children aged 5 to 11. Children aged 5 to 7 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the sessions. Children aged 8 to 11 may attend the session independently, however a parent, guardian or care must attend the first sessions to complete the relevant paperwork.

Family sessions are limited and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.

No booking is required.

Apprenticeships are paid programmes that allow you to earn while you learn. It combines working and gaining a formal qualification. This is usually one day a week at a college or training centre, and is a brilliant way to progress your career.

There are currently over 190 career paths available for apprenticeships, in industries including:

  • For Residents
    Access to a wide range of local apprenticeship opportunities
  • Pre-employment support including CV development, application guidance and interview prep
  • Pre-employment and employment mentoring programs to better understand work environments
  • Guidance and apprenticeship pathways including future career development
  • Support with work based qualifications. This includes functional skills and CSCS cards
  • Financial planning, guidance and details on the positive future an apprenticeship can provide.

For Businesses

  • Dedicated support and guidance in the recruitment of apprentices or the upskilling of existing employees using apprenticeships
  • Links with local apprenticeship providers, training organisations and support schemes
  • Guidance to accessing and utilising apprenticeship levy, ethical apprenticeship recruitment, mentoring and industry recognition.
  • Access to apprenticeship Account Management through EBS. This includes the promotion of roles, active caseload, screening and selection. It also includes continued in-work support
  • Advice and guidance on internal employee development through apprenticeship standards. This includes the option to transfer existing roles into new apprenticeship opportunities.

The Creative Industries Hub

The London borough of Waltham Forest is excited to be leading a new Creative Industries Hub, as part of the Mayor’s Academy programme.

The Creative Industries Hub offers pathways into work in the creative sector for residents of Waltham Forest, Enfield, Haringey, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge and Havering.

London’s creative industries have always been one of the capital’s key strengths and is a vital source of new jobs. Employment in the UK creative industries is growing at four times the rate of the UK workforce as a whole, according to the latest official statistics from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and, Sport (DCMS).

Film and TV production is growing rapidly across the Upper Lea Valley with major new studios opening in Enfield and Hertfordshire. The British Film Institute (BFI) estimates that 10,000 new jobs will be needed to support current planned productions. The majority of these new jobs being located in London and the South East.
